First envisioned in 2020 during the pandemic, after a successful 2021 pilot program our Kenya University Scholarship Project is now an ongoing TIES initiative.
Many young girls in Kenya lose the opportunity to pursue higher education at the post-secondary level due to financial reasons and gender inequality. At TIES, we are determined to promote equal access to education to allow young female students to achieve their goals. Therefore, in 2021 we selected eight deserving young women as the first cohort of TIES university scholarship recipients.
The first year was a steep learning curve, but through some extremely hard work by our agent in Kenya, Sarah Wanjiru, we made the plan work. We are supporting young women who would have otherwise never had the chance to attend university to study in fields including nursing, computer science, and community relations.
After some improvements to the program, we granted more Kenya university scholarships in 2023.
Then in 2024 we reached a milestone with our first two university graduates. Through this TIES project, we are making a difference!
