We are pleased to say that our 2021 Kenyan university scholarship pilot program was a success, and this project will now be an ongoing TIES initiative.
Many young girls in Kenya lose the opportunity to pursue higher education at the post-secondary level due to financial reasons and gender inequality. At TIES, we are determined to promote equal access to education to allow young female students to achieve their goals. Therefore, in 2021 we selected eight deserving young women as the first cohort of TIES university scholarship recipients.
The first year was a steep learning curve, but through some extremely hard work by our agent in Kenya, Sarah Wanjiru, we made the plan work. We are supporting young women who would have otherwise never had the chance to attend university to study in fields including nursing, computer science, and community relations.
After some improvements to the program, we are planning to take applications from another group of aspiring scholars soon and look forward to granting more Kenya university scholarships in 2023.
