On December 30th, 2024 the Finance Department of the Canadian Government announced the extension for claiming charitable donations on 2024 tax returns. Now, all donations made until February 28th, 2025 may be claimed.
This announcement was a response to the month-long postal strike which was suspended until May on December 17th. It’s unclear why the Finance department waited until just 24 hours before the usual December 31st deadline for claiming charitable donations, but every little bit helps.
Fortunately, TIES receives most of its funding from a private foundation and almost all individual donors donate online and are well aware of the usual deadline for claiming charitable donations. (Including one anonymous donor who donated less than 3 hours before midnight on the 31st on our Donate page!) However, any donors planning to donate in February are asked to please message us on our Contact page so that we can hold off until the end of February before issuing a donation receipt.
TIES is extremely grateful for all donors’ support of our projects!
